Use Makeup to Illuminate Your Beauty

The face is the mirror of the mind, and eyes without speaking confess the secrets of the heart
Many experts say that makeup is best understood as the art of creating an illusion.

They advise us to trick the eye into seeing what is not true. Their techniques emphasize contouring a face to conform to a certain beauty standard and they push flaw-concealment as priority one.

Well, not here. Not me. No way. Because your beauty is no illusion!
Readers of The 5-Minute Face will recall how my inspiration to become a makeup artist came from watching my mother paint her canvases with watercolors. She used gentle brushstrokes, swirled in soft washes of color, and played with light to draw the eye to what was wonderful about her subject.

Ladies, today our subject is you. And Mom’s modus operandi still applies. (Thanks, Mom!)

Change the Game and Win Every Time

Change the Game and Win Every Time - Make it gorgeous!
I’ve asked you to change the way you think, to tell the naysayers to buzz off and to focus on your assets. Simply put, to change for the better. But let’s face it: change of any kind can be scary.

All fear boils down to the fear of the unknown. We hold on to negative thoughts and
counterproductive habits if for no other reason than we’re used to them. They’ve hung around for years. Good old, boring status quo. To that I say heave-ho!

Be brave enough to live life beautifully. You may not have traveled this road before; you may not know where it’s going. But trust me, it leads to a fascinating new place filled with opportunities, adventures, and unimaginable satisfaction.

Some of you might hold back your best for fear of standing out in the crowd. You might confuse confidence with arrogance. To that I must ask, why are you so comfortable underplaying yourself?

How is settling for less serving anyone?

When you tune in to what’s special about you, you turn on an inner light that brightens the way for everyone you encounter. When you switch your focus to the positive, you feel energized and kind, creating a presence that is peaceful and comforting to others.

Your feeling good and looking it radiates goodness out into the world. Beauty is magical. It’s powerful. And it only attracts more of the good stuff we want to come into the lives we share. Paying attention to beauty isn’t narcissistic, it’s downright humanitarian!

Albert Einstein once said, “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” Clearly, you picked up this book to achieve something different for yourself, not only for your looks but also for your life. So how about we end the insanity?

If we’re going to be obsessed, let’s be obsessed with being positive. Let’s focus our energies on playing up our natural beauty and appreciating the unique gifts of everyone around us.

Let’s expect different results; let’s expect the best!

You know, the only thing separating the dreamers from the achievers is action. Getting positively beautiful is an easy way to initiate change. Just take that first step, and keep on going.

It’s your life, sugar. Make it gorgeous!

Embrace the Beauty Ritual

Embrace the Beauty Ritual - a bubble bath
Many of us get excited at the thought of transforming our approach to beauty but stop short of doing it.

Why? Because we’ve been told that pampering ourselves is selfish. Again, the negative voices start in. Shouldn’t you be spending that time on the kids? Or hubby? Or the boss? Anyone but you?

The fact is, making time to enhance your natural beauty is your feminine privilege and can improve every aspect of your busy life. When you decide to put your best face forward, you start generating positive momentum and ride through the day on a wave of confidence. And when you’re clearly confident, others believe in you, too. Believe it!

Embrace the power of the beauty ritual, and see what happens when you greet each day feeling relaxed, balanced, and at your best. Whether it’s a bubble bath, a luxurious application of lotion, or a tender patting of powder on your nose, find a ritual that restores you, and do it to your heart’s content.

We have history on our side here. The act of applying creams and cosmetics to benefit skin and spotlight features is an ancient, spiritual art form women have been performing for thousands of years.

Check out the murals in King Tut’s tomb. Those Egyptian ladies took their sweet time perfecting their kohl-black eyes. Why shouldn’t you take a few minutes in the morning to nurture your own beauty?

Consider your beauty ritual as the one steadfast opportunity you have to breathe deeply, rid
yourself of negative thoughts, and honor your loveliness. You need never apologize for making yourself a priority, nor for taking womanly pleasure in it.

And guess what? When you let go of negativity and take a positive, playful attitude toward beauty, you’ll lighten your load and free up a lot of headspace and heart space to be more giving to others.

And you’ll be an even better mom, wife, friend, or colleague because you’ll have started the day with a strong foundation of feeling good about yourself. Nothing selfish about it!
